Sumatra Island is an island attached to the Daesunda Islands in Indonesia. It is said to have an area of 473,481㎢ and a population of about 36.507 million (1990). It is said that the equator announces the center of the island from 1,700km long, 450km wide, and from 5 º39'º  north latitude to 5 º57'º south latitude. It is fascinating to hear that it is an area where the equator passes, and I really want to visit.

Sumatra Island extends along the west coast of the Barisan Mountain Range, and the highest point is said to be Mt. Kerichi (3,805m. There are 12 active volcanoes on this island, and it is said that there are lakes such as the intermediate plateau and Tobaho Lake in the middle of the mountain. In particular, the central plateau is a concentrated area of Sumatra's population, and most of the east coast is a low-flat wetland, and several large rivers, including Campar, which originated from the Barisan Mountain Range, flow, so the population rarely lives.

The climate of Sumatra Island is generally high and humid, and the average annual precipitation is 3,900mm in Padang on the west coast, but the northern part is said to have a clear distinction between dry and rainy seasons. In addition, there are many places covered with forests, and mangroves are lush on the east coast.

What "Mangrove" is...
It is a group of woody plants that grow in tropical and subtropical mudflats or estuaries, and many respiratory muscles fall from stems and roots, and some species sprout from trees and fall 50-60cm after they grow, especially native plants.

It is said that the Minangkabau people, based on the Padang Plateau in the central part of Sumatra Island, have the largest population and are famous for developing a high level of civilization, leaving traces of maternal society. And it is said to have a great influence on Indonesian politics and economy.

It is said that the Bataks, centered on Tobaho, have many Christians, and many people are active as merchants and doctors. The Ache people in the north are said to be devout Muslims.

In addition, the Lampons live in the south, the K-pop in the north, and the Malay on the east coast, and the western islands are said to have their own customs such as the Nias and Mentaway.
